Time to remind you about the Fort Wayne Job Fair, May 28th at the Grand Wayne Center in Downtown Fort Wayne, Indiana. Details are at: http://www.fwjobfair.com/
The name is a bit misleading, because this is also a career expo. Along with several companies and staffing firms with booths, we also have two session halls with speakers lined up through out the day.
One session hall is geared to those who are looking for work. The sessions will include how to prepare a resume, how to search and apply for positions and how to present the very best version of you during the interview.
The other session hall will have sessions for employers on how to find qualified candidates, how to go through the entire process of interviewing, hiring and coaching new employees to become a success.
If you listen to WOWO Radio or our sister stations at Federated Media, WMEE, ESPN, The Bear or K-105, you have heard about this event. Come out and join us next week and spread the word!

Besides writing about media, marketing and all that stuff, today I’m going to dip into the personal side of ScLoHo.
As the legend goes, a few years ago my wife received a gift from her sister.
It was this stand up doll that she probably picked up at a garage sale and gave to my wife as a joke as we were empty-nesters. This doll was given the name Penelope Anne and when we moved about 11 months ago, Penelope snuck into one of the boxes and was hiding for a few months.
At the end of winter, she was discovered and we needed to have a little talk.

We discovered Penelope Anne had been sneaking into the kitchen and making herself sandwiches while we were away at work.
At first, she denied everything.

Then she begged forgiveness.
Penelope Anne begs to stay.
Finally, we told her we would find her a home and gave her a Killian’s.
Penelope Anne takes the edge off with some Irish ale.
Last month was the big day. We took Penelope Anne with us to Calhoun Soup, Salad and Spirit’s for dinner. It was a special day because we were there to spend some time with my son Josh and his wife Madeline before they move to South Carolina.

We think Penelope enjoyed herself, maybe a little too much.

When it was time to go, Penelope tried hiding again under the table.

However a little bit of alcohol lured her out again and we said our goodbyes.

The story has a happy ending. Just the other day we visited Calhoun Soup Salad and Spirit’s for dinner and they showed us Penelope Anne in her new home!

Next time you’re at Calhoun Soup Salad and Spirit’s in Fort Wayne, look up and wave to Penelope Anne!

Due to the overwhelming success for the employers who joined WOWO radio and Federated Media during the two Fort Wayne Job Fairs we hosted in 2015, we have two Fort Wayne Job Fairs planned in 2016.
Two job fairs planned for 2016 in April & October
At the last job fair, some employers waited too long to be included and we ended up with a waiting list of 20 companies that were left out because they simply did not register in time to secure a booth and we sold out all of our booth space. Don’t let this happen to you.
We promote the Fort Wayne Job Fairs on all of our Federated Media radio stations including our host station WOWO. Along with WOWO listeners, there will also be listeners to WMEE< K-105, ESPN, Big 92.3, and 98.9 The Bear coming to the Fort Wayne Job Fairs. We use the full strength and power of these stations online presence too. All ages, all skill levels, all types from all over Northeast Indiana and Northwest Ohio will be joining us to talk to H. R. folks as they seek their next career opportunity.
The event is free to attend, only cost is for the employers that want a booth. We have room for 50, but once again, we will have some who wait and will be left out.
Bottom line: Do you need to recruit employees this year? Contact me, Scott@WOWO.com . I have multiple ways for you to find the candidates you need including these job fairs along with using our radio stations and online digital targeting campaigns. We’ll set up a time to meet and review your needs and figure out which options are best.

A year ago my wife and I decided not to move to Downtown Fort Wayne. Instead we were in the midst of preparing for a move to a new home just a 1/2 mile from our current house.
It was nothing against Downtown Fort Wayne, we were just looking for something that wasn’t there yet, but will be in a few years.
In the meantime, we continue to spend lots of time in the heart of Fort Wayne, just a short drive from our place on the northeast side of town.
Downtown Fort Wayne is amazing. This month I am inviting you to explore the stuff that my wife and I see but from the comfort of your iPad or other device. All you need is an Instagram account and you can see for yourself a growing collection pictures at https://instagram.com/fwdid/ Here’s a few:

For #ThrowbackThursday purposes, I’m starting with a story about my Dad in the 1990’s. Between 1995 and 1997, I was a divorced Dad living about an hour away from my parents. If I came to town on a weekday, and it was about 11am, I knew exactly where to find my Dad.
A doughnut shop on North Anthony. He’d be there with our neighbor Bill and a few others that gathered there every single day for an endless cup of coffee and an occasional pastry. My mom wasn’t there, this was my Dad’s time. I’d always be greeted by the old retired folks, 4 or 5 of them sitting around talking about the latest news and telling the same old stories. They’d greet me as, “Scotty”, since some of them knew me from when I was a little kid 30 years ago.
The doughnut shop is long gone from that location on North Anthony in Fort Wayne, Indiana, and several restaurants have come and gone from that spot including one that has caught on and is doing a brisk breakfast and lunch business.
It wasn’t the coffee that made the place special. It was the social gathering that was going on.
Long before Facebook or it’s predecessor, MySpace made us think Social was something that occurred online, we were social face to face.
Monday I visited a coffee shop on the west side of Fort Wayne that I only visit once or twice a month. The social scene was going on all around me. Sure there were plenty of people like myself on a laptop but there were also others sitting around having conversations face to face.
Some were doing business, some were talking about their weekend. I overheard more than one conversation where “word of mouth marketing” was occurring as a few women were talking about their dentists and at another table a real estate agent was given a glowing recommendation.
As a marketing and advertising guy, I had to mention that. Mr/Ms Business person, people are talking about you whether you know it or not. I can help you become more “talk-worthy”, just reach out to me and we’ll set up a time to meet.
There was also a bunch of retired folks perched on the high stools around the counter having the same conversations that my Dad and his friends had 20 years ago, except instead of a cup of coffee and a doughnut for a buck, they spent 2 bucks for just a coffee.

11 days into the month and I was wondering what Fort Wayne website or online presence to promote. Yesterday I got my answer.
It was via Facebook, a friend of mine, Adam, has been working on this website with regular updates and fantastic imagery.
I returned to Fort Wayne full time in the summer of 1998. Talk of the town was about “brain-drain”, the label assigned to the problem of Fort Wayne losing many of their 20 and 30 year olds to other more ” greener pastures”. A lot has changed over the past 15+ years and the opportunities are there for the making. Some will fail, some will succeed, but that’s okay. This website is a tip of that transformation.
