A Major Social Media Win in Minor League Sports #TinCaps

Last month I took in a Fort Wayne TinCaps baseball game, two weeks in a row.

That’s not like me.

I’ll go a couple times a year but not that often.

It’s a great stadium and I promised my friend Ron I would go with him. I picked a Monday night game and off we went.

The next day I saw on Twitter that the TinCaps were hosting a social media night game. What got my attention is they reached out to me personally.

On Twitter I follow a couple thousand and have about 3 thousand that follow me. Even though I organize who I follow in Twitter Lists, I’m not able to monitor it al the time. If you want my attention mention me on Twitter @ScLoHo.

This years social media night was going to be different. The TinCaps had 6000 Twitter followers in March and they decided to create about 30 jerseys that the players would wear that including all of those 6000 Twitter handles!.

The story made national news.

So I called my friend Ron, asked him to buy a couple of tickets and off we go to my second TinCaps game in 2 weeks.

During the game, they were encouraging fans to check in with Twitter, Facebook, FourSquare, Vine, and Instagram, us the #TinCaps hashtag and give their seat number to be entered to win one of the TinCaps Social Media Jerseys.

Turns out I was one of the winners along with my friend Kevin Mullett and at the end of the game, all the winners were brought out to the 1st baseline to receive their jerseys from the players.

This is a big win for the team, for the fans and for the publicity. That evening #TinCaps was trending in Indiana on Twitter and the team also won the game, which was followed by fireworks.
