Does It REALLY Cost $100 A Minute to Advertise on WOWO?

Yesterday I shared, $100 is the price per commercial for a 60 second ad during WOWO’s Prime Time programs.

There are some exceptions and that’s the topic for today.

6am to 6pm Monday through Friday is WOWO’s prime time. That covers 4 news and talk shows, each 3 hours long.  Each program has a certain number of minutes reserved for local advertising.  

During Fort Wayne’s Morning News, there are 30 minutes per day.  Glenn Beck has 19 minutes per day. Rush Limbaugh has 16 minutes per day and Pat Miller has 29 minutes per day.   (Glenn and Rush actually have more that 19 and 16 commercials per day, but those are network ads). These numbers are the total numbers as of the end of January, when I was given my latest update on rates and inventory.

When I sign an agreement with a business to advertise, I am reserving the air time out of those minutes we have available.  We are like a hotel or airline in that we live by the law of supply and demand.  Want to book a room for Friday night?  If you wait until Friday, you’ll pay top price.  If you plan ahead and reserve a few weeks before hand, you are likely to get a lower price.

Same thing with our $100 per minute advertising rates.  Want to start next week?  You’ll pay top price.  Want to start next month or the month after?  You could be paying as little as $75 for the $100 per minute advertising time.

Planning ahead is one way to save a few bucks.

$100 for 1 minute in WOWO’s Prime Time.  That implies that there are other times you can advertise too and it might not cost $100 per minute.  Another article is coming on these options.

How does this $100 per minute rate compare to other radio stations rates?  I’ll share with you what I know from my previous experience about those other stations pricing.

Bottom line in all of this is balancing the amount of money you spend with the results you receive. And the real question is will the advertising bring you new business?
